Watchers think Apple is going to release new iPod this week

Feb 23 2005-Apparently, Apple is releasing new iPod's and a new mini iPod with a color screen. Well, hopefully they are, but this is just speculation on sites around the internet, and Apple has declined to comment.
updateApparently they were correct, Apple just announced a bigger iPod mini, with 6gb storage, new iPod photos with 30gb and 60GB respectively, and dropped prices on the 4GB mini to $199.00 and the iPod photos are $349.00 for the 30GB and $449.00 for the 60GB, which had previously been priced at $599.00!
Most sites said the iPod mini would remain largely unchanged except for the color screen. Keith Bachman, of Banc of America Securities, wrote in a note to clients, "a price cut we expect this week or next should help Apple's market share", and that Apple would also "offer higher capacity points." He went on to say, "We think Apple's iPod will continue to gain market share for the next 2-3 quarters as its Flash-based product (iPod Shuffle) gains momentum."
Buy an iPod and get tons of music. Zero gravity. It’s amazing to think you can hold 10,000 songs in your pocket. Before iPod came along, you needed a forklift to carry around that much music.
iPod shuffle Our Smallest iPod Yet The size of a pack of gum, iPod shuffle weighs less than a car key. Which means there’s nowhere your skip-free iPod shuffle can’t go. And with up to 12 hours of continuous playback time, it keeps going as long as you do.
iPod Mini Apple engineers squeezed all the best features of iPod into a case weighing just 3.6 ounces and smaller than any cell phone. iPod mini features an anodized aluminium case that resists stains and scratches.

Apple pipes in new iPods update Apple Computer shuffled in new iPod Mini and iPod Photo music players on Wednesday and dropped prices on some models.
The company introduced a higher-capacity, 6GB Mini, along with new 30GB and 60GB iPod Photo models, which can use an adapter to connect directly to digital cameras and display photos. The Minis also feature a boost in battery life.
The new models expand the range of Apple's popular hard drive-based music players and increase the product line's capabilities in digital photography. A $29 camera adapter for the iPod Photo answers the call for connecting the player directly to cameras without the need for a computer as a go-between.

Apple to unveil new iPod? The Web was abuzz with iPod gossip Tuesday, as sites feverishly pitched the speculation that Apple Computer might this week announce new iPods, including a mini with a color screen.
At least three Web sites, including Think Secret, said the iPod mini would be largely unchanged except for the screen.

Cameras, iPods need to talk to each other Your portable music player and digital camera are about to get a lot more friendly with each other.
There are already plenty of MP3 players on the market, including Apple Computer's iPod Photo, that can show digital photos while playing music. But soon, we are likely to see music devices that can download and display pictures directly, without using a computer as a go-between.
That's what Gary Johnson, the CEO of PortalPlayer, says. His company makes the chip for the iPod and several other hard drive-based music players. Johnson was careful not to say whether it will be Apple's player that does this, though. An Apple representative declined to comment.

Who's buying iPods? As many as 22 million American adults, or about 11 percent of the U.S. population, own iPods or other MP3 players, a new study has found.
The study, carried out by the nonprofit Pew Internet & American Life Project through phone interviews of more than 2,200 people, showed that those who are younger, wealthier and use the Internet are more likely to own such gadgets.
While one in five people under the age of 30 have an iPod or other MP3 player, the number dropped to one in seven in the 30-to-39 and 40-to-48 age groups.

Apple debuts new, low-priced iPod As widely expected, Apple Computer on Tuesday introduced a new version of its popular music player--the iPod Shuffle, priced as low as $99.
Based on flash memory, rather than the more expensive computerlike hard drives that have been the centerpiece of all other iPods, the new player is aimed at the low end of the market, relatively untraveled territory for Apple. It comes in two sizes. The $99 version has 512MB of storage and holds about 120 songs, and a $149, 1GB version holds about 240 songs.
